Just like Cheshire, Herefordshire is an English border county, included here as the River Wye winds its stately way through, before returning to Wales to relieve the Monnow of its role as the Monmouthshire border with England, a task the Wye fulfills until it flows into the Severn at Chepstow. The famous bookshop town of Hay on Wye lies on the Herefordshire border, along which are still to found ruined Marcher castles, historical remnants from the many bygone battles with Wales. A famously unspoiled English county, Herefordshire is famous for its cider orchards and for the Forest of Dean. Many beats of the River Wye offer both coarse and game fishing, coarse fishing being particularly well provided for in Herefordshire

Venue; RIVER WYE (Border County)
The River Wye (Welsh: Afon Gwy) is the fifth-longest river in the UK and for parts of its length forms part of the border between England and Wales. The source of the Wye is in the Welsh mountains at Plynlimon. It flows through or past several towns and villages including Rhayader, Builth Wells, Hay-on-Wye, Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Symonds Yat, Monmouth and Tintern, meeting the Severn estuary just below Chepstow. Between Rhayader and Builth Wells the river Wye falls approximately 250ft, and so there are lots of interesting runs and pools, which are ideal for holding brown trout and grayling. The Salmon can also be found in this stretch, having taken the opportunity to run up the river whenever there has been high water. Coarse fsh are scarce on the upper Wye although some Dace and Chub can be caught. The middle reaches from Bulth Wells down can produce Barbel, Perch, Pike, Roach, and Bleak. The lower reaches around Monmouth can see the rare shad during April & May.
