Torfaen
Torfaen, the most easterly of the South Wales Valleys, stretches just 12 miles from Blaenavon in the north to Cwmbran in the south. Its principal river is the Afon Llwyd which offers 13 miles of double-bank game fishing. Llandegfedd Reservoir can be fished coarse and game. Though a smaller county, Torfaen has a wide variety of landscapes and Blaenavon is home to the National Mining Museum of Wales, a place of great importance to the history and culture of the Valleys.

More information on Torfaen
Blaenavon is also the source of the Afon Llwyd – the game fishing only – river of Torfaen that stretches for 13 miles through the entire length of the borough – through Pontypool which is the next town down this valley. Pontypool has an angling club and game fishing on the Afon Llewyd and also a local tackle dealer Ade’s – contact for local details. Running alongside Pontypool town is the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal ( fishing rights with the Waterway Wanderers). From this point – the Mon and Brecon canal and Afon Llwyd river run side by side – separated by half a mile of buildings/roads down the valley to the Town of Cwmbran.
Cwmbran Angling association lease or own nearly all the waters through and around Cwmbran. They have 3.5 miles of double bank game fishing on the Afon Llwyd river, 4.5 miles of course and Pike fishing on theMonmouthshire and Brecon canal, 3 ponds on the Llantarnam Business Park holding about fifteen different species.
Also behind the ponds is the Dowlais brook containing the odd small trout and eels. Apart from This there is Cwmbran
boating lake that is council run and free fishing holding some decent size carp. Also above Cwmbran town centre – in Upper Cwmbran is Blaen Bran reservoir – with free fishing with some good fish of different species Cwmbran has a local tackle dealer called Cwmbran Angling in Pontnewydd – not to be connected to the club of the same name. Steve is the owner and sells the membership and day tickets for the Cwmbran waters. Cwmbran A.A. also have a website).
